Hi Scythe22
Your second profession is changeable... ie once you have reached a certain stage in the game (and it's not far into Nightfall campaign), you can change your secondary profession as you wish. So it isn't a decision you will have to "live with" forever on your Char. When choosing your second profession for the first time, remember that the Dervish does have some awesome AoE damage and also awesome self-healing/protection, so a Monk or Ele would probably not be a necessary choice. Necromancer and Mesmer have some very nice hex skills to back up your Derv skills, or the Paragon for some party support for the melee guys in there with you... It's all about learning how to play the class for the first part of the game, so concentrate on the Dervish skills and when you know what they do and how they handle against various foe, then look at the other classes for skills you feel will augment/compliment your style of play and go there. Once you get to change your secondary profession, you can "learn" all of them and change at will - so you always have the utility of changing your second to whatever suits the situation. Hope this summary kind of helps - good luck and welcome to our world. Once you have the game going, and you find you have more questions, feel free to whisper me in-game and I will be glad to help. Dervishes have their own AoE attacks, so don't worry about that. Monk is always popular for a hard rez, I think there are some good farming builds with Mesmer as a secondary. Since they have decent base energy and 4 pips of energy regen you can go with Ranger for [skill]apply poison[/skill], it isn't that greatest combo, but good until you learn the ropes of the game. Really, since secondary professions can be easily changed a little later in the game the combonations are endless.

Warrior for [skill]Distracting Blow[/skill] and [skill]Wild Blow[/skill] come to mind as good for a Dervish.
Distracting Blow is used as an interrupt, as the Dervish has none, and Wild Blow is to score both a critical hit (deals the maximum damage of your damage range) and end stances whilst being unblockable. |

Dervish combines well with many professions.
Warrior is a good choice because of the various un-typed melee attacks available. Any profession that utilises enchantments also synergises well with the Dervish. |

Dervishes in the beginning do not have condition removal or hex removal (they can get them both later on). Until then, Monks with condition and hex removal skills are good, they also have a lot of enchantments that Dervishes can utilize.
Dervishes do not have the ability to interupt or remove stances, so Warriors are a good thing to consider, also Warriors have defense boosts and increased attack speed skills. Rangers, as previously mentioned, have some skills that do well with the Dervish (such as apply poison, increase attack speed skills). Necromancers have plague touch. Mesmers have illusionary haste (which combines well with Melandru's Avatar). Elementalists have conjure spells, but they are only good if you have elemental damaging weapons, that and you must make sure that you don't lose your enchantments when using a skill. Paragons have a hard rez, Increase Attack Speed skills, condition removal. I have a D/Mo for the hard rez, mending touch, hex removal and reveral of fortune enchantment. |
